Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.
When I called Jim to ask for his help, he gave me a response I would never forget: "Lissa, I once told you that no matter what happened between us, I would always be there for you. What time do you want me to pick you up?" After a whole year apart with almost no contact, I was stunned. This was truly a remarkable man.
I turned out to be fine with basic hypoglycemia, but those few days of riding to the hospital provided Jim with an opportunity to take me out to lunch and to catch up. This was the beginning of a whole new level of friendship for us.
I was confused about my feelings for Jim and didn't know what to make of our relationship. I knew that I was in love with Jim, but I had truly believed that it had been God's desire for us to break up a year earlier. Was it the Lord's will for us to get back together? I prayed earnestly for direction and asked my friends and family to also pray that I could fight my strong feelings for Jim. However, that wasn't meant to be. God knew best and had different plans.
Partway through our junior year of college we began dating again, and we knew it was for the last time.
