Good Day Sunshine

Absolutely nothing can heighten my mood like a sunny, warm, perfectly beautiful spring day in Dallas. The peach tree has started blossoming in our back yard, the birds are singing non-stop, and I have one day left of my Spring Break. I headed out today to run errands with Jim in my short-sleeved tee-shirt and open-toe shoes, and was thrilled to find that my big toenail has made great gains being closed off from the world all winter (I tore it off in a freak playground accident the first week in October). To make things even better, my house is clean and neat after a week of good housekeeping. I didn't expect that things could possibly improve when I walked out the door today, but my mood was amplified when we made some great finds for our house. We got new faucets and coordinating accessories for our master bathroom and a loveseat for the family room. I spent time looking at beautiful flowers at Lowe's today and I dreamed of our flower beds that will be planted soon enough, and I perfected my rocking technique on a variety of patio furniture in the store, dreaming of the deck and back yard I hope to one day share with my family. We didn't buy patio furniture, but the dreaming part was really nice. Now I am home and Jim is grilling cheeseburgers in the back yard. I've been told plenty of times in my life that I'm easy to please, and I'm assuming that's a compliment. My day has been great for a variety of reasons, but it's the small ones that have made the difference. If I lived every day waiting for vacations and new furniture, I wouldn't have much to smile about. But the toenail improvement, clean house, and sunshine are the gifts I cannot ignore. Big things can make me really happy, but it's the trips to Starbuck's, the hot bubble baths, and smell of spring that make me truly thankful that God has given me yet another day on this earth.
